Visit Crumlin Road Gaol when staying at the Grand Central

The Crumlin Road Gaol is located just 10 minutes from the Grand Central Hotel.
This local attraction dates back to 1845 and closed its doors as a working prison in 1996. After extensive renovations the Gaol has reopened as a visitor attraction. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within its walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.

The guided tour will inform you about the Gaol's history including when women and children were imprisoned, the executions that were carried out, its more recent history and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.

For those feeling a little brave the Gaol holds popular Paranormal Tours. Over the years there have been sightings, noises and unexplained happenings within the walls that have seen 17 men executed over its 150 year history.
